Christmas is a time for celebration and family gatherings, which means you will have many little ones to keep entertained. To help with their entertainment, creating unique games and activities surrounding the many Christmas words can be fun, educational, and engaging. Pace
The act of doing something, such as walking or running, at a consistent and continuous speed.
Example: At the pace mom was working at, she would have Christmas dinner done well before any of the guests arrived.
Package
An object wrapped in a box, plastic, or other wrapping materials that will be presented for sale, delivery, or shipping.
Example: We saw the mailman stop in front of the house and knew he had a package with our Christmas presents.
Pain
The feeling of discomfort and physical suffering that is caused by illness or injury, but it can also be the trouble caused by an activity someone does not wish to participate in.
Example: One of my favorite songs to sing at Christmas is “The 12 Pains of Christmas” because it is so much fun to listen to, and I can relate to many of the pains in the lyrics.
Painting
The process of using paint to cover a wall or a painted picture.
Example: The activity we picked for the kids to enjoy this Christmas was painting their ornaments.
Pair
A set of two items used together or considered the same unit.
Example: Every year, in addition to getting toys from Santa Claus, we receive clothes and a pair of shoes from mom and dad for Christmas.
Panic
The sudden and uncontrollable fear or anxiety often results in irrational thinking or rash decisions.
Example: When mom realized what time it was, she started to panic because our Christmas dinner guests would arrive in less than an hour, and she was nowhere near ready for them.
Parade
A public procession or promenade that is often put on as a way to celebrate a holiday, special occasion, or victory. Most parades have beautifully decorated floats and marching bands.

Example: Mom got my brother’s parcel ready filled with Christmas goodies to send overseas to him while serving in the military.

A father or a mother of a child.
Example: Our parents love Christmas, and dad over-decorates the outside of the home, while mom does a lot of shopping for gifts.
Partridge
A short-tailed bird that is native to Eurasia and has a brown plumage.
Example: My little brother couldn’t remember the first part of the stone “12 Days of Christmas,” and instead of saying “partridge,” he kept saying “Big Bird in a pear tree.”
Party
A social gathering where guests are invited to drink, eat, and socialize.
Example: The company’s Christmas party was about to begin, but I was stuck upstairs finishing up some things for work before taking time off for the holiday.
Pastime
An activity that someone or a group of people regularly enjoy for entertainment and enjoyment instead of working, also referred to as a hobby.
Example: My uncle’s pastime was to go antique shopping, and in every store he would go to, he spent time searching for antique Christmas ornaments.

The ability to tolerate trouble or suffering without getting upset or angry.
Example: The school teacher had a lot of patience on the last day before Christmas break because all of the kids were so excited to have time off from school that they were not listening.
Peace
The moment of having freedom from disturbance, or the state where there is no war, or the moment when a war has ended.
Example: Dad was so at peace on Christmas Day; however, mom was a bit stressed out cooking in the kitchen.
Peaceful
The moment of being free from any disturbances, the state of being tranquil, or the act of not being involved in any war or violence.
Example: Watching the snowfall through our living room window on Christmas morning was so peaceful.
Perfume
A fragrant liquid made using essential oils derived from fruits, flowers, and spices can create a pleasant smell on a person’s body or clothes.
Example: Dad was hoping the perfume he bought mom for Christmas was her favorite because when he got to the store, he completely forgot which one she typically wore.

A picture that is made using a camera that was typically made using film, processed using development chemicals, and then processed onto photo paper; however, today, cameras are digital, and photographs are taken and appear instantly on the screen.

Example: Every year, we pick our Christmas tree from the local tree farm, and when we put it up, it makes the home smell so good.

A painting or drawing, or the act of representing someone or something in a painting or drawing.
Example: When the snow started falling, I took out my camera to capture a picture and remember the moment when the snow looked white and before it got dirty from traffic on our road.

Something that is visually appealing in a quaint and stylish way.
Example: The fresh snowfall was so picturesque it made the perfect background for our family Christmas photo.
Pie
A baked dish made with a pastry crust and filled with fruit or a mixture of meat and vegetables, then topped with more of the pastry crust.
Example: My favorite dessert every Christmas is my grandmother’s cherry pie, topped with whipped cream.
Pine
A coniferous tree that has clusters of long needles and grows cones.
Example: The pine tree in our front yard has grown since last Christmas, and dad had to go to the store to buy more lights because he did not have enough to cover the tree.
Pine cone
A seed-bearing organ that is found growing on pine trees that have bracts arranged around a central axis.
Example: Every Christmas morning, we go out into the forest behind our home and search for fresh pine cones to make into bird feeders to use throughout the winter.
Pipers
Bagpipe players or a group of people who play a pipe as a musical instrument.
Example: My brother and I disagree regarding the number of pipers piping in the song “12 Days of Christmas;” I say 11, and he says 10. We looked it up, and I was right!
Piping
The ornamentation on food, especially a cake, consists of lines of icing, whipped cream, etc.
Example: The piping on the cupcakes we made for Christmas was a mouthwatering buttercream frosting in green and red.
Pleasant
The act of giving a pleasant sense of satisfaction or enjoyment, or a likable, friendly, and considerate person.
Example: We had a very pleasant Christmas, enjoying the morning opening up presents from Santa and the evening gathering with family.
Plentiful
Having or yielding significant quantities of something or an abundance of something.
Example: Christmas presents were plentiful this year, leading the kids to believe they were very good, and this was Santa’s reward.
Plenty
To have a large or sufficient amount of something, or having more than enough of something.
Example: We had plenty of desserts for our Christmas gathering that dad had to get another table, so we could put them all out.
Poinsettia
A small shrub from Mexico with large scarlet bracts surrounding small yellow flowers, and also a popular houseplant and gift during Christmas.
Example: Living in Florida, we could plant poinsettia along our front walkway for Christmas without fear they might freeze.
Polar
Something related to the North or South Pole.
Example: My brother took his stuffed polar bear, put a Christmas ribbon on it, and set it underneath the tree for decoration.
Pole
A long slender, round piece of metal or wood, or in reference to the northern or southernmost part of the Earth.
Example: The North Pole and Santa’s Workshop must be magical places, and I put them on my Christmas wish list every year to take a trip to visit.
Portrait
A painting, drawing, or photograph that typically only shows the shoulders and head.
Example: My sister and I each had portraits taken, so we could wrap them up and give them to our parents for Christmas.
Praising
The act of expressing warm approval, admiration of, or gratitude toward, especially toward, a deity.
Example: During Midnight Mass, we were praising God for all the amazing things we had all year long.
Praise
To express approval of, admiration of, or gratitude toward someone or something, commonly toward a divine entity.
Example: My cousin had a rough time at school so far this year, but just before Christmas break, he received an A on his test resulting in lots of praise from his parents.

Present
To be in a location, or the act of existing or occurring now. It can also mean a gift, similar to those given at Christmas time.
Example: It was a fantastic Christmas with everyone in our family present to celebrate the season and exchange gifts.
Prince
The son of a monarch or a close relative to the monarch, such as his son’s son.
Example: One of my favorite Christmas movies is “The Nutcracker Prince,” and it has become a tradition for my family to watch every year.
Promise
An assurance or declaration one makes, ensuring they will do something or that a particular thing will occur.
Example: We made a promise to our parents to be good during Midnight Mass and Christmas dinner, and if we were good, they promised us something amazing.
Punch
To strike with a fist or a beverage made from various juices, fruits, and sherbert.
Example: We put my little sister in charge of making the punch, and all she had to do was pour the juice into the bowl and add the fruit and sherbert. But somehow, none of the fruit made it into the bowl, so we think she ate it instead of adding it to the punch bowl.
